A full week of activity in Lima as members of its Basque club and community get ready to host “Mercomus 2017” mus tournament.  Fourteen teams coming from Argentina, Chile, Venezuela, Uruguay, as well as Peru will compete at the event that will conclude on Sunday with a celebration of Korrika 20 through the streets of Lima, joining in again on the "tipi-tapa, tipi-tapa Korrika” for another year, in support of the Basque language (includes video). 

Lima, Peru.   In 2017 the Mercomus tournament reaches its tenth year.  Last year it was held in Santiago, Chile and prior in Montevideo and over the last ten years taking place in various cities in the participating countries, in function of nationality of the wining team, as well as joining in centennial celebrations of several of the Basque clubs.

This time, there are 14 participating teams from Argentina (3), Chile (3), Venezuela (1), Uruguay (3) and the hosting country Peru (4).  Although to date the participants have been from neighboring countries, the organization told Euskalkultura.com that they are not closed, but on the contrary, “players from other countries in this part of the world like Mexico, Colombia, Bolivia and others, are also invited because it would only benefit the event,” they say.

After Mercomus, next Sunday, Korrika. Video-invitation by members of all ages from the Euskal Etxea in Lima to participate next Sunday in the celebration of Korrika in favor of the Basque language through the streets of Lima.
