Memories and tears at the tribute at the Toki Eder Basque club at its tribute to members from the Basque Country

The Basque club in Jose C. Paz paid tribute to 50 club members born in the Basque Country.  The ceremony took place as part of the club’s end of year lunch and moved those present when certificates were presented to members currently living in Argentina.

Paz, Argentina.   Looking at the end of the year, the Toki Eder Basque club said good bye to 2015 with a lunch at the clubhouse for its members and friends.  The festivities took place on December 6 and also included the celebration of Euskera Day as well as paying tribute to 50 members who were born in the Basque Country.

The tribute began with moving words by Culture Coordinator, Lidia Lucia Lechardoy, originally from Zuberoa, on Basques who immigrated to Argentina and brought their culture to disseminate it through the Basque club.  They were also honored with an Agurra performed by Agustina Olaizola and sung by Raquel Pino.  The Basque club also presented those living in Argentina with a certificate, as well as to relatives of those who now reside in the Basque Country.

In regards to members living in Argentina, they came to the Toki Eder Basque club event from Buenos Aires, Florida, Malvinas Argentinas, Mercedes, San Miguel, and also from Jose C. Paz.  The list included: María Luisa Anton Martínez, Inés Zabaleta Iriondo, María Ángeles Oñederra, María Asunción Aranguren Garitaonandia, María Esperanza Uribeondo and Ruiz, Ángel Fernández Vitorica, Guadalupe Martínez Gamarra, María del Pilar Uribeondo y Ruiz, José María Aguirre Amirola (Priest), Jesusa Zarandona Sagarminaga, María Lucía Oñederra, Juliana Martínez Gamarra, José Erostarbe Aramburu, María Luisa Tome Echano, Francisco Javier Zubillaga and Rosa María Uribeondo Ruiz.

Members residing in the Basque Country, specifically in Oñati, Bilbao, Tolosa, Lekeitio, Mungia, Gernika, Bedarona and other localities in Nafarroa as well as the rest of the Basque Country were also honored.  These included: Ángel María Iturbe Yarza, María Isabel Elorza Jaureguialzo, Ignacio Zubia Umerez, Ayuntamiento de Oñati, José Antonio Urteaga Madinabeitia, María Socorro Peña Oñate, Edurne Urteaga Peña, Xabier Urteaga Peña, Gregorio Domingo Lasgabaster Olaziregi, Belén Corta Cobeaga, María Mercedes Pérez Zalabarria, Eñaut Zubia Fernández, Itziar Renteria Korta, Iker Zubia Elorza, Sonia Fernández Garin, Ohiana Zubia Elorza, Pedro Moreno Zulueta, Reyez Zubia Umerez, Miren Oñederra Mayoral, Arantza Tajada Cortes, Ana Cuenca Bermudez, Arrate Kortabarria Anduaga, Josu Arregi Agirre, Ángel Abaunz Ayustuy, Josu Zubia Fernández, Aritz Demicheli Bruschi, Naroa Moreno Zubia, Benita Arando Derteano, Ignacio Elorza Aldanondo, Aiur Moreno Zubia, María Ascención Uribeondo y Ruiz, Ane Demicheli Bruschi, Tomás Oñederra Amias and Jon Oñederra Mayoral.  Some family members of the aforementioned actually received the certificate on their behalf.
