More than one hundred Basque-Venezuelans participated last weekend in Galdakao, Bizkaia at their annual event organized by the Simon Bolivar Association. The event broke last year’s attendance record and included people from at least three generations, with emotional details about the transmission of the Basque-Venezuelan sentiment and that of the Diaspora in Euskadi.

The event was very well-attended and a great time was had by all in Galdakao last weekend at the annual celebration organized by the Simon Bolivar Basque-Venezuelan Association and its president Amaya Zenarutzabeitia. Amaya, as many of those in attendance was born in Venezuela in the heart of the Basque community in this Caribbean country.
The day began with mass in remembrance of deceased members of the Basque-Venezuelan community, after which there was a meeting of attendees, many of which only see each other once a year at this event. This year there was a number of new people of all ages who were very excited to be a part of it.
There were presentations, music, and dance both Basque and Venezuelan, and tributes during the meal that also included a diverse menu of typical Venezuelan delicacies.
