San Juan, Argentina. The 38th edition of the bike race “San Juan Vuelta” took place January 26-February 2nd. During a week, 167 cyclists from various corners of the world raced more than a thousand kilometers, distributed in seven stages and traveling through typical mountain landscapes. Among the competitors, was a Basque group, the Orbea Foundation Team that was welcomed by members of the local Basque club as soon as they arrived to the capital city.
With Eduardo Ochoa at the lead, representatives of the Basque Club in San Juan also went to their hotel to welcome and support the Basque athletes with Ikurriñas, and txapelas. Cyclists Jokin Aranburu, Mikel Alonso, Peio Goikoetxea, Iker Ballarin, Garikoitz Bravo and Unai Quadrado were thankful for the visit and posed for photos with some of their local fans.
Unfortunately, their results were not the best for the Basque team, as they did not classify among the top ten. This time first place went to the Belgian Remco Evenepoel who was named the youngest winner of the race in its history at the age of 20.
