Neuquen, Argentina. As at most Basque clubs around the world, members of the Baskos de la Confluencia Basque Club in Neuquen have not been able to get together for months due to the confinement imposed throughout Argentina as a preventive measure against COVID-19. Now, before the end of 2020, not only did they get together again but did so on Tuesday to witness one of the most important astronomical phenomena of the century.
The total eclipse of the sun took place on December 15th at 11:40am and at 2pm it was visible in many South American countries. The best place to appreciate it in its entirety was in some areas of Patagonia in Argentina and Chile where “it became night in broad daylight,” for some minutes.

With an Ikurriña in hand, members of the Basque club, left the city to watch the phenomenon, “and it was worth it, despite the characteristic wind that accompanied us throughout the day. As in many other traditional Basque gathering, there was no lack of food and drink,” according to club member Pedro Arana Urionabarrenechea on social media.
During a year with no in person activity, members of the Baskos de la Confluencia Basque Club did not miss out on FEVA’s virtual offerings. They also attended the virtual toast organized by the Delegation of Euskadi in Argentina-Mercosur, on December 10th.
