The coastal city, Mar del Plata, will be the site next November 2nd, of the Inter-Congressional meeting of Basque clubs in Central and South America in preparation for the Congress of Basque Collectivities that will be held in Bilbao in October next year. Representatives from a dozen Latin American countries have been invited to the meeting that will also be attended by Lehendakari Urkullu.

Mar del Plata, Argentina. Delegations from ten countries have confirmed their attendance at Friday’s meeting including Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Venezuela, Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Cuba, El Salvador and Paraguay. Confirmation is still expected also from the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.
The meeting is being organized by the Basque Government’s Directorate of the Basque Community Abroad. As director Gorka Alvarez Aranburu told EuskalKultura.com, the meeting will include an intense work day addressing questions regarding Basque club functions, the optimization of the relationship and Government programs, as well as proposing topics that will be discussed at the World Congress of Basque Collectivities Abroad that will take place in 2019.
Similar Regional Meetings have been held prior to this one of Basque clubs in Europe and Asia (May 2018 in Paris), and North American Basque clubs met in February this year in an Francisco. The meeting in Mar del Plata is the prelude to the 2018 Semana Nacional Vasca in Argentina, that will take place all week long in this coastal city.
The meeting will also be attended by Irene Larraza, director of the Etxepare Basque Institute.
