Donostia-San Sebastian. Maitena Etcheverry, from La Plata, was the winner of the Canon camera that we raffled in February among readers who submitted photos reflecting some aspect of Basque culture. The photo that Maitena sent shows three txistularis playing in the Moreno Plaza in La Plata in front of the cathedral.
We asked her to send us a photo of her and thanks to the talents of her mother, Maria Fernanda Astigarraga, we now have this photo that is featured above.
The winner of the coveted weekend at an agro-tourismo in Euskadi is from Venezuela. Members of the Nekatur association contacted Beatriz de Elguezabal who will enjoy two nights at the rural farmhouse of her choice.
Beatriz told us that she had traveled to Euskal Herria before, to visit her family in Bizkaia, Gipuzkoa and Navarre, but she would like to get to know the interior of Bizkaia better since her father’s family is from there. “My father is from Bilbao and my mother is from Lizarra-Estella. They met in France escaping the War and later traveled to Caracas where me and my three brothers were born,” she says.
“My entire family self-identifies as Basque despite the second and third generations being Venezuelan,” she adds to close that she intends on traveling in the fall with a cousin or a friend, depending on the political situation in Venezuela.”
