Macachín, Argentina. This weekend, muslaris from La Plata, Junín, Laprida, Buenos Aires (Laurak Bat), Chascomús, Cañuelas, Chacabuco, Maipú, San Nicolás, Saladillo, Ayacucho and Macachín will compete in the 41st National Mus Tournament held at the Euzko Alkartasuna Basque Club. The winning team will go on to represent Argentina at the 2019 International Mus Tournament that will take place based in Baiona (Lapurdi) in October. Tournament play will begin on Saturday at 3pm preceded by a meeting of Basque club delegates and the local city to pay tribute to Euzko Alkartasuna’s president, Iñaki Unamuno, unveiling a bust on the walkway named in his honor last year.
The hosting club is also organizing a parallel, non-official, mus tournament for those accompanying the muslaris. In this case, besides representatives from the aforementioned clubs, others will also participate from Rauch, Santa Rosa, Bahia Blanca, and Trenque Lauquen. The event will also be attended by FEVA’s president, Arantxa Anitua and the Delegate of Euskadi in Argentina-Mercosur, Sara Pagola Aizpiri.
This is a special weekend as Monday is a holiday as Tuesday is Independence Day. Basques gathered in Macachin will also celebrate San Fermin and this national holiday. As such, the hosting club is also organizing a huge dinner, open to the entire community, on Sunday beginning at 9:30pm. Tickets available for purchase here.
