New York, NY. The third edition of Txikifest took place last Sunday, June 2 in the Chelsea neighborhood in New York, on a beautiful day that gathered nearly 600 people to enjoy this typical Basque wine.
“Txakoli has enjoyed exposure for some time, not only in New York City, but all over the US and this fair, Txikifest, as others in other states, helps keep our wine in the limelight and on everyone’s lips,” Eder Montero, chef from Bilbao and major promoter of the event explained to EuskalKultura.com.

During the event nearly 700 bottles were consumed, donated by 16 bodegas of the three denominations of origin that participated this year. According to Montero, money collected – prior to final accounting – is estimated close to $10,000 that will be allocated to the NGO “Sanctuary for Families.”
“This NGO, as well as the two others – FACES (fighting epilepsy) and the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) at the NYU Hospital – have always been chosen for very personal reasons, for events that have taken place in our personal and professional lives,” Montero says.

This New York-style Txakoli Eguna was very well covered in the press and on local TV and its organizers are very happy include theirs among the many established events in the Big Apple.
