Los Banos, California, USA. Zorionak, Sally! This California Basque can communicate in Basque, English and Spanish, French and even a little bit in Italian. She was born on October 7, 1920 in a California that claimed Euskera as its heritage in an atmosphere characterized by immigration and the diversity of origins. She married Martin Paternain in 1948, a young Basque emigrant from Aldude (Behe Nafarroa), and they raised a family that preserved the culture and Basque legacy. Sally is Mary (Paternain) Zabalbeascoa’s mother in Los Banos. Sally has three grandsons and two great-grandchildren.
Even if COVID-19 will impede celebrating in the festive manner that such a special birthday deserves, the family has confirmed that there will be a celebration for Amatxi who will receive some surprises, and with whom they will share a memorable day all while respecting the health and safety measures put in place.
Zorionak, Sally, a big hug from Europe, the United States and from the entire Diaspora!
