Louis Erreguible, from Zuberoa, passed away last Sunday. He was very well-known and esteemed, by Basques and non-Basques alike in the Reno community. In 1967, he founded Louis’ Basque Corner, a Reno classic, and had celebrated his 90th birthday last August. Services will take place on August 26th followed by a gathering at Louis’ Basque Corner, of course.
Reno, NV. Born in Maule, (Zuberoa) in 1926, Louis Erreguible, was known in Reno as a chef and the founder for Louis' Basque Corner. He immigrated to the United States in 1948, called by an uncle who was already established here. It didn’t take him long to realize that sheepherding wasn’t for him, and after working at several restaurants in the area, he established his own in 1967. Loui's Basque Corner is today, along with the Santa Fe, one of the last representations of the large former Basque presence in this field in the city.
After learning of his death, several media have also reported it. This is how the Reno Gazette Journal, the paper with the largest diffusion in the area reported it: "Louis Erreguible of Louis' Basque Corner dies at 90". The AP also reported the news of his death through a note.
This is how KRNV did it:
The funeral will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 10am at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, to be followed by a reception at Louis’ Basque Corner.
