Lima, Peru. The Euskal Etxea in Lima celebrated Aberri Eguna one more year, the 27th, like it has been doing since the year that the club was founded. This time, the event took place on Sunday, April 21st, since the South American Basque club Mus Tournament obliged the club to change the order of its events and push Aberri Eguna back.
The day began with mass at the Basilica of the Virgin of Pilar in San Isidro, celebrated by the Bishop Emeritus of Callao, Monsignor Miguel Irizar. It was attended by numerous club members and friends, as club president Raul Noblecilla told EuskalKultura.com.
Choir Recital
“During mass, the Lima’s Basque club choir was remarkable singing the Our Father and Agur Jaunak at the end of the ceremony,” he added. “During his homily Monsignor Irizar referred to the festivities and its celebration in Euskadi as it coincides with Easter Sunday.”

After mass, club members gathered at the clubhouse in Lima where they enjoyed a lunch of fellowship. The menu included paella, prepared by Nacho Ortuzar.
“A great number of members and friends gathered, remembering those who have already departed and paying tribute to their families. The club choir returned to livening up the gathering, and attendees enthusiastically joined in on songs that were reminiscent of the Basque Country,” Noblecilla said.
