Thanks to the Etxepare Basque Institute's collaboration, the Latin American Film Festival in Vancouver will dedicate a special section to Basque film.  Screenings will take place today at the Cinematheque cinema, with seven shorts from the Kimuak program and the feature-length film “Urteberri on, amona!”.  The director of the latter, Telmo Esnal, is in Vancouver as a member of the festival’s jury, and he will attend the screening to present this dark comedy filmed in Basque.

A Film on Dance

Telmo Esnal, from Zarauz, director of Urteberri on, amona! will be in Vancouver until September 7th as a member of the festival’s jury.  Esnal is currently working on an ambitious project, a full-length film on the world of Basque dance.  It will be called Dantza, and will include the participation of anthropologist and dantzari Jose Antonio Urbeltz, artist Koldobika Jauregi and the Argia Dance Group.

The project is currently seeking funding, and is being supported by the Basque Government’s Department of Culture.  Given the passion with which the Diaspora follows Basque dance, we will definitely keep an eye on the project’s progress.

Here is a teaser from Dantza:
