Vitoria-Gasteiz. Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu will begin an official visit to New York on Monday, July 15th, to participate in the 2019 High Level Political Forum (HLPF) at the United Nations, where he will present advances made in Euskadi in regards to sustainable development, according to sources at the Lehendakaritza. During his trip, the Lehendakari will hold various meetings including one with Deputy Mayor, Phil Thompson. On Tuesday, July 16th Urkullu will host a reception at 6:30pm at the Millennium Hilton New York Hotel for the local Basque community.
According to the press release, Euskadi has been invited to present the advances made in the implementation of Agenda 2030 and SDGs, given the pioneering character of these Basque initiatives. Iñigo Urkullu will announce the initiative of Sustainable Bonds, which has allowed the Basque Government to raise 1.100 million Euros to be allocated to social and environmental investments according to Eusko Jaurlaritza.
The Lehendakari is the first president of a Spanish Autonomous Community to participate in this international forum. He will lead a Basque delegation that includes the Secretary General of Foreign Action, Marian Elorza and the Delegate of Euskadi in the US, Jorge Fernandez.
