Vitoria-Gasteiz. Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu will meet with the heads of EU institutions over the next two days. The goal of this trip is to present the Government’s Program as well as Euskadi’s economic, social and political situation, as well as the Basque Government’s firm European commitment.
Urkullu will arrive in Brussels tomorrow. He will be received by Jose Manuel Durao Barraso, the President of the Commision. Afterwards, he will have meetings with the Commissioner of Internal Affairs, Cecilia Malmstron, with whom he will discuss, in particular, aspects related to the consolidation of peace and coexistence in the Basque Country, along with Joaquin Almunia, Vice-president and European Commissioner for Competency.
In the afternoon, the Lehendakari will have a meeting with the local Basque community in Brussels, as part of a reception at the headquarters of the Delegation of Euskadi there. During the event, the Delegate of Euskadi for the EU, Marta Marin; the Secretary General of Foreign Action, Marian Elorza; and the Lehendakari will speak. Members of the Bruselako Euskal Etxea will attend, among others.
The next day, Urkullu will conclude his first trip to Brussels with a high-level meeting with Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Council.
It should also be mentioned that during the day, the Basque Minister for Economic Development and Competency, Arantza Tapia, will also be in Brussels to meet with the Commission of Investigation, Innovation and Science, Maire Geoghegan-Quinn, and with the Commissioner of Energy Günther Oettinger, in order to share a diagnostic policy of I+D+I in Euskadi in respect to Europe.
