Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu will leave for Mexico this Sunday on a trip whose main goal is business and economics, but one that will also allow meeting with the Basque community there. On Monday Urkullu will attend the official inauguration of the University of Mondragon-UCO in Queretaro. The Lehendakari’s visit was preceded by a delegation of Basque businesspeople, led by the Minister of Economic Development and Competiveness, Arantza Tapia, who has been in the country since Thursday.
Vitoria-Gasteiz. Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu will meet the Basque community in Mexico this week with representatives of Basque business linked to the country, as part of an official visit that will begin this Sunday. The main objective of the trip that also include Minister Arantza Tapia and a group of Basque businesspeople, is to get to know the status of Basque businesses in Mexico and seek other niches that can provide certain Government reforms in this country specifically in regards to energy.
The agenda will begin on Monday in Queretaro, with breakfast with Basque companies based there and attending the inauguration of the University of Mondragon-UCO, a project that continues the expansion of the Mondragon University abroad that just began its first academic year. Urkullu will be in Queretaro until Tuesday and while there will meet with Basque entrepreneurs and local political leaders.
Meeting at the Basque Club
On Wednesday, in Mexico City, Urkullu will meet with Basque entrepreneurs located in the rest of the country, (nearly 80 in all) and will visit the headquarters of the Delegation of Euskadi in Mexico.
On Thursday, the Lehendakari will visit the Senate and UNAM, among other activities. The National Autonomous University of Mexico is among those in the country that enjoys a Basque language and culture lectureship taught by Gurutzne Etxeberria. On Friday, Urkullu will meet the Basque community at a reception at the Basque club, as well as attend the inauguration of the GGM Gestamp plant in Puebla.
The visit will conclude on Saturday with a press conference where an evaluation of the trip will be made.
