Bakersfield, California. The city of Bakersfield, in California’s interior, two hours northeast of Los Angeles, hosted the 2014 NABO Convention in conjunction with the local Kern County Basque Club’s 70th Anniversary. The club’s annual Basque festival always coincides with Memorial Day holiday and the three-day weekend.
EuskalKultura.com also participated in the events and has provided here some of the more significant moments of the festival, among the many. Due to the time difference with the Basque Country – 9 hours – the festivities continue as this is being published. So starting today, we will publish different articles chronicling the events of the weekend with abundant photographic material to support it.
[Mus and Pilota are two sports are two leisure activities that have attracted the Basques the most, even on this side of the pond. The pilota matches were much anticipated in Bakersfield and were followed with much excitement with players from the US as well as the Basque Country (photoEuskalKultura.com)]
[Who says that today’s youth is not restless and enterprising? Mikaela Goicoechea is an American Basque born in Wyoming who at the age of 15 designed her own t-shirts and sweatshirts. Mikaela sold her first line of products successfully for the first time this weekend, with the support of her parents who encouraged her to develop both her artistic and business talents (photoEuskalKultura.com)]
[Music and dance were not lacking every night this weekend. Here youth, and at times even entire families, dancing to Luhartz from the Basque Country, (photoEuskalKultura.com)]
This article only provides a general presentation of a series of articles that will include many photographs to be published throughout the week as a photo chronicle of the 2014 NABO Convention and 70th Anniversary of the Kern County Basque Club in Bakersfield, CA.
