Arrecifes, Argentina. The Euskaldunak Denak Bat is getting closer to its centennial even if there are nine years remaining, which, although it may seem like a long time, is nothing for an institution that has already spent nine decades functioning without interruption. The memory of its grand 90th birthday, last year, is still in their memories and fills them with anticipation of the huge celebration when “La Vasca” reaches a century. Meanwhile, the day to day is more important and that is why authorities, members and friends of the euskal etxea toasted on the 23rd.
Beginning Tuesday the 19th
The events of the anniversary began on February 19th, with a performance by the dance group at the Ricardo Gutierrez Club. Once again demonstrating the good relationship with local institutions, the Basque club dantzaris performed at the closing ceremony of the club’s summer activities.
[The show “Costa Vizcaina” is composed of 40 photos and is part of the activities of the Asociación Cultural ‘Radio Club Takolos’ from Erandio Bizkaia. As Nobile explained at the inauguration, in 2012 members of the group from Erandio got in touch with the Basque club in Arrecifes to offer this exhibit. The exhibit presented to the Lagunen Etxea club in Laprida, “Rincones de Erandio” (Corners of Erandio) is also part of this project. (photo EE)]
Continuing with the program, the Euskaldunak Denak Bat gathered last Saturday at his clubhouse and after welcoming remarks by President Omar Gorostidi, those present were invited to tour Cantabria thanks to the “Costa Vizcaina” show, inaugurated as part of the festivities. Before the presentation Laura Nobile explained the theme of the exhibit and how it had come to Arrecifes. Don’t forget that the exhibit will be open to the public until March 11th, from M-F from 9:30-12:30 p.m.
[As in many Basque festivities, music and dance predominated during the 91st anniversary of the Arrecifes club (video EE)]
Next a chapter of “El hierro y el mar. Costa Occidental de Vizcaya” (Steel and the Sea. The Western coast of Bizkaia) by Mirada Magica was shown and following the film, the youth, either in age or in spirit, took to the floor to sing and dance. The party lasted until nighttime, with music, song competitions, and of course toasts and a birthday cake.
Photo exhibit “Musicians”
On the other hand, the Arrecifes Basque club has let us know that two of its members were selected to be part of the “Musicians” exhibit by local photographer Wanceslao Duzac.

Images of the txistularis Juani Sáez Abarrategui and Marianela Rimini Azarola are part of an exhibit that was open to the public on Sunday the 24th at the Plaza Mitre. As part of the anniversary festivities these images were also shown with a video as the “backstage” of the photo shoot.
New Activities for 2013
Some of the activities being proposed for 2013 by the club worth noting are the new choir directed by Marin Aguilar, which will begin practicing on March 7th. Everyone is invited to participate and no prior musical knowledge is required.
There will also be a txistu workshop for anyone interested. The get-togethers will take place at the clubhouse, every two weeks, and will be taught by Juani Saez and Marianela Rimini. For more information write: centrovascoarrecifes@gmail.com.
