Lagunen Etxea in Laprida heavily involved in the Festival of Communities and the city’s 125 anniversary

Loyal to its tradition, the Basque club in the Argentine city of Laprida accompanied the local community in various celebrations that took place in September.  It was present at the event and parade marking the 125th anniversary of Laprida; and it contribuited with its dantzaris and the main speaker to the 1st Regional Meeting of Communities.  Along with this news, the Basque club also announced that it will name its library after Magdalena Moujan Otaño at an event that will take place on December 7th. 

Laprida, Argentina.  On September 6th the 1st Festival of Regional Communities in Laprida took place organized by the Spanish, Italian, Uruguayan, and Basque communities, supported by the city.  The event took place at the Plaza los Robles, and began with the raising of the Argentine national flag by Mayor Alfredo Fisher, accompanied by members of the institutions present.  Representing Lagunen Etxea was its president, Martin Adrian, and continued with the national anthem and patriotic songs from each community gathered.

Next, Professor Eduardo Torry, representing the Laprida Basque club and the Arturo Campion Studies Center, was in charge of speaking about the importance of the date.  After his address, kick off the cultural and food stands, and in the afternoon there were dance and music performances.

The City’s 125th Anniversary

Also during the month of September, but this time the 14th and the 16th, the Basque club took the ikurriña to events celebrated for the 125th anniversary of the foundation of the city.  On Sunday the 14th the dantzaris performed dances on the festival’s main stage.  On Tuesday the 16th,  the club was omnipresent at the official event, accompanying the national flag to the mast, in the parade, and at the food stands.

Library “Magdalena Moujan Otaño”

In regards to the club’s library, one of the main forces in the club, director Maria Ester Arrondo reported that with the consent of the Board of Directors the library will be named for Magdalena Mouján Otaño.  The ceremony will take place on December 7th, as part of the club’s 25th anniversary.  The author of Gu ta Gutarrak passed away in 2005 and was the granddaughter of well-known bertsolari Pedro Mari Otaño, and a member for years of the Arturo Campion Studies Center in Laprida.
