The community gastronomic patio has a place annually at the local Exhibition of Rural Society in Pergamino, province of Buenos Aires. Thanks to a large group of workers, the Lagun Onak Basque Club had a stand opened to the public over the five days from noon till the evening hours, satiating the curiosity and the public’s taste by providing them typical Basque dishes.
Pergamino, Argentina. The Exhibition of Rural Society in Pergamino took place from September 7-11. There was a Community Gastronomic Patio as part of the fair, and the local Basque club also participated with a booth that not only provided typical dishes, but also information on Euskal Herria and its culture.
As club president, Carlos Miquelena, told EuskalKultura.com, “it was part of the Community Food Patio with our best dishes, pintxos with cheese, and sausages, seafood casserole, chicken casserole with piperade, txistorra on brad, and warm pintxos of txistorra and egg. The stand was open over the five days from 10am until 8pm, and this thanks to a large number of people, there were nearly 20, who made it possible. It was a lot of work but it was worth it since we were able to meet our main objective: leave a good impression of Lagun Onak and the Basque county and culture,“ he said.
After the fair, the club is now getting ready for its upcoming events. On the one hand, the club’s anniversary, and on the other the participation of the dantzaris and food stand at the city’s anniversary. And looking ahead, in November the main event will be Semana Nacional Vasca in Necochea.
The festivities are only part of the energy that the club members have been putting forth since Basque classes also resumed last week. A group of 15 students have begun working on an online course managed by Euskaltzaleak in Buenos Aires and invite anyone interested to join them.
