Supported by the Aviron Bayonnais Club in the city of Baiona, the Rugby School will function at the Basque clubhouse in La Plata as well as at the club’s field, in City Bell. Classes at the Rugby School will begin in March, as well as the rest of the cultural, social and sporting activities that the Basque club offers to the community.
La Plata, Argentina. The agreement signed in 2016 between the Euzko Etxea and the club in Baiona is now taking another step towards the creation of the Rugby School “Aviron Bayonnais.” In the words of those responsible, “the goal of the project is to provide children and youth, both boys and girls, in La Plata and the surrounding area the possibility of playing a group sport; promote education in values that will strengthen personal growth; promote healthy lifestyle habits and integrate families in this non-profit entity that has been around for 72 years, and enjoys prestige in the community of La Plata.”
Regarding the school, it will function at the Basque club facilities in the city of La Plata, and also in the sports fields located in City Bell. As part of the agreement signed last year between the club and the Center, the School is authorized to use the name, logo and the “Aviron Bayonnais,” uniforms. Organizational coordination, on the other hand, will be led by Marcelo Ricci, director of management and reference for the Euzko Etxea’s board of directors.
“The agreement with the club in Baiona also allows us to provide an activity with a long tradition in the local community, such a rugby, and allows us to work side by side with an entity in Iparralde,a historic Basque territory from which a significant number of the founding members of the club came from,” club sources added.
