As part of the agreement between the La Plata Euzko Etxea Basque club and the Foundation, presided by Jorge Zorreguieta with the University of the East, the Chair in Basque Culture and Language will be taught by Dr. Carlos Irisarri who will teach a six-day course. After completing the course, participants will receive a certificate. During the inauguration, next Wednesday, the Basque club and the Foundation will honor Daniel Oiarbide who served as the Etxepare Lecturer at UNLP through last December.
La Plata, Argenitna. Over the last few weeks, the Euzko Etxea Basque Club has signed a series of agreements in order to work with various institutions, all focused on spreading the Basque culture. One of these, with more information coming in a separate article, is with the Juan de Garay Foundation and includes the formation of a Basque Chair at the East University.
The Chair in Basque Culture and Language at the East University of La Plata will be aimed mainly, but not exclusively, at students already enrolled at this university. The program foresees a six-day program with dates TBD, from 10:30am -1pm with two presentations or classes at each taught by various professors backed by the club as well as the Foundation, under the coordination of the holder of the Chair, Carlos Irisarri. At the end of the course, students will receive a certificate.

-Basque Language (Carlos Irisarri)
-History of the Kingdom of Navarre (Pedro Bramendi)
-Basque Law (Enrique Aramburu)
-Basque Literature in Spanish and French (C. Irisarri and M. Barrios)
-Basques in Newfoundland (Luis Luquez)
-Juan de Garay (Jorge Otaño Piñero)
-Basque literatura in Basque (Carlos Irisarri)
-Basque Rebellion in the Salado Basin (G. Villate)
-Basques in the Independience, National Reorganization and the Argentine Presidnets of Basque Origin (Jorge Beramendi)
-Basque cinema: Urte berri on, Amona! with Judith Martirena
-Basque cinema: Kutsidazu Bidea, Isabel with Judith Martirena
Foundation sources have told EuskalKultura.com that the program may vary depending on how it develops and looking towards the future, one the agreement is in place, they will work on consolidating the Chair and extend the program to eventually include the participation of some visiting professors from Euskal Herria.
Inauguration
The inauguration of the Basque Chair at East University will take place on June 14th at 7pm at the University (Calle 2 Nº 684). The ceremony will include the following:
-Signing of the agreement of collaboration and establishment of ties of fraternity between the University, Juan de Garay Foundation and the La Plata Basque Club.
-Performance by the La Plata Basque Club Choir
-Address by Dr. Carlos Irisarri, current occupant of the Chair
-Tribute to Mr. Daniel Oiarbide who had served as the Etxepare’s Basque culture and language lecturer through last December, prior to returning to the Basque Country.
-Exhibit on “The Basques in Argentine,” by professor and historian, Mikel Ezkerro
After the ceremony there will be a gathering at the Basque Club that will include local authorities.
