The Bizkaian group led by Agus Barandiaran is preparing a tour of Basque clubs in Argentina in November. During their performances, Korrontzi will perform along with local dantzaris who will be trained beforehand. The tour program is not yet determined and dates and places will continue to be determined as the group receives invitations. Anyone interested in hosting a recital should get in touch with them.
Buenos Aires, Argentina. Interesting activities for the Basque Diaspora in Argentina in 2017 are shaping up and without a doubt the tour announced by the group Korrontzi will be one of the highlights of 2017.
As Kepa Ramos, tour coordinator, explained to EuskalKultura.com, “Korrontzi Folk Taldea will arrive in Argentina in November and will perform along with local dantzaris who will have been coached beforehand. Due to the enormous distances that exist in this country, we think that we will have to count on several groups and that each one will be taught a choreography to perform.” In the words of Ramos, “all interested euskal etxeas in having Korrontzi perform in their city, should contact them as soon as possible to see what dates are available.” In fact, the calendar will be determined by the invitations received. The group’s email is: korrontzi@gmail.com.
The show will be similar to what is currently being performed in Europe, even though, Ramos assures, “I’m sure Agus will surprise us with something.”
Some background, Korrontzi was formed in 2004 thanks to trikitilari Agus Barandiaran, as a group dedicated to “traditional Basque music, accompanied by current techniques, with the help and inclusion of modern instruments like the mandolin, bass and percussion.” They have five albums to their credit and have performed on stages all of the Basque Country and have also performed in other countries in Europe and the US.
