The campaign #mundiala travels the world by a tweet, at the same time marking the Basques presence there. Since its presentation on November 22, nearly 15,000 Twitter users have participated in this initiative, with a gesture as simple as sending or retweeting a message with hashtag #mundiala. The world map is available on the campaign’s website where the points where messages have been sent from are illuminated. EuskalKultura.com has already joined in, what about you?

Donostia-San Sebastian. The #mundiala website (www.mundiala.net) already shows nearly 15,000 participants and rising even though there are still four days left until the International Day of Euskera that will be celebrated on December 3rd. The initiative, supported by the Basque Government with the collaboration of EITB, hopes to create a map of Basque supporters in the world, by using Twitter.

To participate, all you have to do is send a message in Basque via Twitter, including #mundiala.  The campaign site gathers all the messages and includes the location of the sender on its world map, as well as the recipient of each message.  In this way, little by little, the map has started to weave the network of Basques in the world, and hopefully in the coming days they will become more and more dense as more Basques participate.

The initiative is also being transmitted via EITB, by disseminating messages, articles and radio and TV ads. We couldn’t resist including this one, featuring our friend Hagio Sho, member of the Tokyo Basque club, Basque culture scholar, dedicated euskaltzale and Basque speaker (the latter is made clear by the video):
