Boise, Idaho, USA. In 2020, impacted by the situation generated by COVID-19, it wasn´t possible to celebrate the traditional Sheepherder’s Ball, as every year at the Boise Basque Club, a charity event organized annually by the Oinkari Dance Group that includes a dance and auction. Organizers realized that it wasn’t worth taking unnecessary risks and that they needed to be responsible, particularly thinking about those around them, and especially the elderly, as sign of solidarity and affection.
The event should have taken place last Saturday, and although it didn’t happen, members of the Oinkaris didn’t want the date to pass unnoticed. With Xanti Alcelay in charge of the technical coordination, they created a video and show in the Basque spirit that at this moment cannot emerge publicly, in crowded celebrations, but which is still there, actively waiting for better times to come soon.
Anyone wishing to donate may do so here Oinkari.org or on BasqueCenter.com. Eskerrik asko!
