Donostia-San Sebastián. The images reproduced here were saved by the Dantzan.eus website from the archives of Filmoteca EspañolaFilmoteca and RTVE. They are images from 1938-39 and show Basque children who had been evacuated to England in the ship called Habana to save them from the bombings by Franco’s rebels and allies. Here you can see an exhibition of dance organized in one of the camps where they lived. The audience is comprised of English authorities and local people. The Basque children are dressed in poxpolinak and ezpata-dantzariak, first in a kalejira and later dancing Agintariarena and Zinta-dantza. You can see the tents where they lived behind the dancers.
