The Basque club in Jose C. Paz, celebrated two decades of live with a gigantic paella for 150 people. Among their guests were various representatives from neighboring Basque communities, as well as from the Federation of Basque-Argentine Entities, with President Hugo Andiazabal also joining in the festivities. “It was an unforgettable celebration, with that wonderful Basque atmosphere that we have in our house,” Maria Angeles Oñederra told EuskalKultura.com.

The celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Toki Eder Basque Club took place last Sunday, June 12, at the clubhouse in a room that was especially constructed for large event, and that on this occasion premiered its red curtains. The festivities began at the door of the Euskal Etxea where Agustina Olaizola dedicated an Agurra to the authorities present. Following, and to conclude the exhibition outside, the dantzaris of the Gure Talde Alai dance troupe invited everyone present, including neighbors who could hear the music, to join in some dantza jauziak.
Among the 150 guests that attended, there were representatives from the Basque community of Gral. Rodriguez and Lujan, as well as authorities from local institutions and those in San Miguel. Hugo Andiazabal also attended this special anniversary to express FEVA’s support for the club.
During lunch, the president of Toki Eder thanked everyone for attending and especially the president of FEVA, announcing during her address that Toki Eder had been a member of FEVA for 10 years. She also mentioned the citizens of Oñati, especially Jose Antonio Urteaga, who had done such excellent solidarity work which characterizes Toki Eder. Andiazabal also stressed this peculiarity of this club had stressed that the organization of the club, working groups and especially the presence of youth.
“Two decades have already passed of constant work, amalgamating culture and solidarity; from our Etxea, open to the community, providing workshops on Basque, dance, literary and gastronomy, to mention a few. To those who have received our help who in many cases come to participate in our activities; it is also a way of spreading the Basque culture. I don’t have anything but words of thanks for these 20 years,” Oñederra said.
After lunch, club members elected Blanca Teresita Alfonso as the new 'club mayor' for 2016-2017. When it was time to sing “Happy Birthday,” everyone present raised their glasses to make a toast and share some birthday cake. Finally, the dance exploded to live music by Daniel Galfredo.
