Aia, Gipuzkoa. The traditional traditional dance place of Aristerrazu is surly the best known in Euskal Herria in the neighborhood of Andatza in Aia. Many outstanding names in the world of Trikitilaris have passed through here and it is the stage which new generations of trikitilaris, dantzaris and fans of popular dance aspire to and working towards. With more than six decades of history, Aristerrazu is facing a new challenge these days with the cancellation of its sessions due to COVID-19. Today’s event, on Sunday April 19th included the music of the Elizagoien Ahizpak.
Itsaso and Irune Elizagoien are two young girls from Etxalar, Nafarroa that we saw last December playing with the Mallorca Basque Club, among the events organized by the Artea Basque Club in the Balearic Islands to celebrate the Day of Navarre.
This afternoon, Itsaso and Irune will not be able to meet at Aristerrazu, but that is not stopping them from inviting the audience that usually attends the event, as well as fans of traditional Basque dances from all the Basque Country and the Diaspora – although this time a virtual dance, from home through their Instagram and Facebook.
It will take place today at 7pm Euskal Herria time, five hours earlier in Argentina at 2pm; and 9 hours earlier in California, at 10am.
This will be a special test. If it works, there may be more.
