Montevideo, Argentina. The Haize Hegoa Basque Club in the Uruguayan capital held the 22nd edition of its “Children’s and Youth Christmas Card Contest.” Club president, Maite Bengoa explained, and told the stories of the customs and the legends “Four Orphaned Brothers,” “The Christmas Trunk,” and “Olentzero,” after which the children, between the ages of 4-16, designed their Christmas cards.
According to club sources, “As in any contest, there were prizes for the best works, in categories by age, as well as recognition for all of the participants. It was very difficult for the jury to choose the winning cards since all were very well done.”
Nevertheless, Haize Hegoa finally chose its Christmas card, in order to send their best wishes to friends all over the world. “The Olentzero will accompany the card as he comes down from the mountain to share sweets, and coal,” they explained.
