La Plata, Argentina. The popular movement, Gure Esku Dago, is getting ready for another challenge; the creation of giant urns lined with fabric to express personal connections “forever claiming and deepening the right to decide.” There will be various activities throughout the year as part of this dynamic, and all will have as a priority, “to weave collaboration between different people, weave the decision.” In this program of activities there will be key dates: April 25, when “each town and neighborhood will create personalized fabric squares” until June 20 when the exhibition of the combined efforts, a “huge citizen network” weaved among them all. In order to do that, they will use huge urns, “urns that will allow us to express our will and our decision in the near future, in free-form,” explain the organizers (video with events in the Basque Country).
Time to weave wills in Argentina
In the same way, and with the same goal in mind, the invitation to participate in this giant joint fabric is also extended to the Diaspora in Argentina with the following particularities:
-You don’t have to make an economic contribution to participate
-Fabrics will be united, preferably some colored fabrics divided into squares of 25 x 25 cm (without being cut, as shown in the photo seen below)
-Each square of fabric will serve to shape wills, messages, drawings…they can be made individually or by a group
-Fabric will be gathered in la Plata before April 25
- There is No limit in regards to the quantity of squares that can be sent
-You can also send photos along with your fabric and/or videos of the creation process to have a registry of it
On April 25, the same day as in the Basque Country, there will be an “Ehuntze Eguna,” in Argentina where the collaboration of everyone who wishes to will gather to combine their pieces into one huge Argentine Diaspora fabric.
On May 10, as part of the “Buenos Aires Celebrates the Basque Country,” the joint quilt will be exhibited, and it will later be sent to the Basque Country. As expressed by Gure Esku Dago “We think this is an excellent opportunity to join in the desire of the Basque citizenry, from Argentina, and so we would like everyone to become part of this.”
