Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Laurak Bat Center of Buenos Aires will open the 2014 calendar with a proposal aimed at the community of the Buenos Aires Museum of Decorative Arts, where for more than a month there will be a program of activities with the goal of spreading diverse parts of Basque culture.
The main attraction of the exhibition will be the display Our Clothes, a set of traditional Basque clothing gathered and made by Magdalena Mignaburu. This time around, Our Clothes will have about thirty designs and prints owned by Mignaburu and other models on lease from the centers of Denak Bat, from Mar de Plata, and Anaitasuna, from Maipu, that will complement the collection. They have also added novelty headgear and various types of footwear.
Concurrent Activities
Also, during the forty days of the exhibition, Laurak Bat will develop other events to allow visitors access to a more comprehensive view on other aspects of Basque culture and especially the way it is currently preserved and spread in the city.
Accompanying the clothing exhibit will be a showing of images representative of the Basque Country and a program of events consisting of presentations of dancers from Laurak Bat and the choir of Lagun Onak; also, there is a space saved for traditional Basque literature, by Gabriela Mendia, and txistu recitals, led by Jose Gutierrez (the specific dates and times of these activities will be announced soon).
Let us remember that Our Clothes, created by Mignaburu in 2011, consists of traditional Basque clothing utilized during the 18th and early 20th centuries organized in some cases by geographic region and in other by types of dances they dressed for. From its inception until today, the exhibition has toured various locations in the Buenos Aires province, including Pellegrini, Rauch, Pehuajo, and Reefs, and in the province of Santa Fe, such as Venado Tuerto and Rosario. Also in Buenos Aires, it has been exposed for short periods in festivals such as Buenos Aires Celebrates.
The entire show in the Museum of Decorative Arts will remain open between March 14th and April 27th, from Tuesday to Sunday, 2pm to 7pm. The price of admission is $15, except for senior citizens and children under 12, who have free access. Free admission on Tuesdays.
