As part of an agreement signed by the Euskal Etxea and the National University of Rio Cuarto (UNRC), Gure Ametza Basque Club will now open its doors to classes as part of the “Barrial University” project that it supports. In order to welcome students, the club carried out several renovations at its facilities including refurbishing classrooms and arrangements at the entrance.  Gure Ametza is very happy to be able to contribute in this way to the development and training of the community residing in its neighborhood.

Rio Cuarto, Argentina.   Thirty-five students will begin the course entitled “Community Facilitator,” in the area of citizen training today at Gure Ametza Basque Club in Rio Cuarto taught by professionals from the Ombudsman’s Office in Rio Cuarto.  The event has come together thanks to the framework agreement of mutual cooperation singed last year by the club and the aforementioned University.

The Barrial University project began in 2016 with the signing of agreements and protocols between the National University of Rio Cuarto and a dozen local entities and institutions that allowed neighbors to participate in workshops and courses in crafts, culture, sports and civic education all free of charge.

In the words of Sergio Eguiazu, member of the club, “The agreement allowed concrete actions in common between the Euskal Etxea and the University aimed to develop the communities in the areas of influence of the two signatory institutions.” In hopes of strengthening the relationship between the club and the University, the Euskal Etxea will invite university employees to its own activities.

In order to house “Barrial University,” Gure Ametza did some remodeling of its facilities, like refurbishing classrooms and making it more welcoming to students and professors by including more elements of the Basque culture there.

As such, the Basque club hopes to join in and contribute, as much as they can, to the training and proving opportunities, increasing the formative and education al level of the community where it is located, and of which it is a part, like the local club that it is.
