Guests from Pergamino, Capitan Sarmiento, Buenos Aires and Jose C. Paz joined in the festivities last weekend to celebrate the 94th anniversary of the Basque club in Arrecifes. The program includes music, dance, greetings from other Basque institutions and special gifts for Euskaldunak Denak Bat, one of the clubs with the longest traditions in the province of Buenos Aires.  

Arrecifes, Argentina.   Arrecife's Basque Club's birthday has become a February classic and is therefore the date marked in red on the calendar of many friends of the institution who wouldn’t miss the festivities.  Last Saturday, the locals celebrated with guests from Capitan Sarmiento and Buenos Aires, as well as members of Basque clubs in Pergamino and Jose C Paz, represented by Graciela Luna.

During dinner, the hosting club shared Greetings that came from Euskaltzaleak in Buenos Aires and Eusko Aterpea in Gral. Rodriguez.  Euskaldunak Denak Bat also receive special guests on its 94th birthday: Graciela Hernandorena, Roberto Hernandorena’s daughter, club president on various occasions; presented board members with a picture with an embroidered lauburu; on behalf of the Athletic Peña “Joseba Etxeberria” from the city of Jose C. Pas, thanks to its president, Ricardo Rodriguez Anton and his vice president, Gregorio Martinez Rojo sent the honorees the club’s coat of arms carved out of wood.

There were also dances performed during the evening by the local dantzaris and others who came from Pergamino and Jose C. Paz, who performed Kalejira, Fandango and Kontradantza.  When it was time to sing Happy Birthday there was also cake and candles along with toasts.  Club directors addressed those gathered and invited them especially to participate in the various activities that they organize all year long, including the adult choir “Iruki alaiak,” that this year began practicing mid-February, and the children’s and youth choir, as well as dance classes and Euskera classes that will begin in April.

The party lasted until dawn thanks to local, Gustavo Peralta and his acclaimed musical show.
