Gorka Alvarez Aranburu will travel to Uruguay and Argentina and will meet with representatives of several Basque club and also participate next week in “Buenos Aires Celebrates the Basque Country.” The Basque Government’s Director for the Basque Community Abroad arrives today in the capital of Uruguay where he will take part in a FIVU event to begin a journey where he will meet with representatives from Euskal Erria, Saltoko Euskaldunen Talde, Haize Hegoa and Euskaro, before continuing on to Argentina.
Vitoria-Gasteiz. During the week of the 81st anniversary of the Bombing of Gernika, Alvarez Aranburu will visit several Basque clubs that have programmed different events to commemorate that tragic April 26, 1937 that the Basque Government’s Director for the Basque Community Abroad is also invited to. This afternoon Gorka Alvarez will participate in an event about Gernika with members of FIVU in Montevideo.
The Basque Government representative will continue traveling northwest to the city of Salto where he is guest of honor at an event to lay the corner stone of the new “Gernika Space,” supported by the Saltoko Euskaldunen Taldea as part of the historic recuperation of the legacy of Pascual Harriague, a pioneer inmigrant and entreprener from Lapurdi. On Sunday, April 29th, he will return to Montevideo to participate in the event organized by Haize Hegoa and Euskaro at the Gernika Plaza.
On Monday, April 30th, Gorka Alvarez Aranburu will visit the Euskal Erria Basque Club and will talk with its members and its board of directors, in order to get to know them better and to gather information about their reality, planning, projects as well as their concerns regarding their club and Basque community.
On May 1st, a public holiday, he will travel to Buenos Aires and Argentina to arrive in Maipu on the 2nd in the interior of the province of Buenos Aires where he will be welcomed by members and representatives of the local Anaitasuna Basque club. From Maipu he will travel to Ayacucho where he will visit Euskal Odola’s new clubhouse that was inaugurated in March, and where he’ll meet members of the local Basque community.
On Thursday, the 3rd and the 4th he will go to Mar del Plata that will host the 2018 Semana Nacional Vasca Argentina. Among other topics, they will also talk about the mid-congress meeting for South American Basque clubs that will take place the same week under the auspices of Semana Vasca and organized by the Directorate led by Alvarez Aranburu.
On Saturday, May 5th, the eve of Buenos Aires celebrates, he will meet with representatives of FEVA and the Laurak Bat Basque Club and will join in the activities prior to the same. On Sunday, May 6th, he will participate in BAC on the Avenida de Mayo and surrounding area.
On Monday, May 7th he has a date with the Association and the Euskal Echea College followed by a meeting at the Eusko Kultur Etxea – Eusketxe in Buenos Aires, as well as a visit to the Museum of Galician Emigration, to conclude with a visit to the Basque stand at the International Book Fair in Buenos Aires; all before returning home on Tuesday, May 8th.
