Boise, USA. Every third week in July the Gooding Basque Association celebrates its annual picnic at the Gooding County Fairgrounds, with a variety of activities, for kids and well as adults. This year's the program includes activities such as a lamb barbeque, Mass, traditional Basque dancing, a weight lifting exhibition, a Txingas (weight carrying) contest, Soka-tira (tug-of-war), Boise Oinkaris Basque dancing group, and competitive games for the children.
The Gooding Basque Association was created in 1982 to preserve and promote the Basque Culture in this town and county through food, dance, language and a variety of other activities.
In 2002 the Association built the Basque Cultural Center that has a hall, commercial kitchen and bar area, which is used for club events, First Friday Dinner and rentals and catered events.
Every First Friday of the month, with the exception of July, there is a dinner open to the public. It is from 6-8 pm and there is always lamb and either pork, chicken, fish or beef along with Basque rice, soup, salad, vegetables, bread and dessert.
