Cordoba, Argentina. The Gathering of Minority Languages organized annually in Cordoba by the local Gerora Basque Association celebrated its 10th edition in 2018. The event was attended by representatives from communities from Bolivia, Catalonia represented by the Casal Catalá, Slovenia, the Paraguayan Center in Cordoba, and members of Gerora representing the Basques. The event that focused on the written word, opened with a video on the Nahuatil language with a reading of Mintzaira gordelekua demean (Language as Refuge) by Joseba Sarrionandia.
After the opening, each one of the collectivities presented a song in their language. The Basques also presented an Aurresku, and “Axuri Beltza,” with Lu Zabalza singing and Fernando Zabalza and Santiago Chamorro on the txistu and drum. The event received the blessing of the Legislature as part of its 10th edition.
The event took place on November 9th in the Protocol Room at the Cordoba Legislature and was very well attended. Gerora also participated in a symbolic 2018 activities closing since its workshops and classes will continue through December, with lunch on Sunday the 11th. During lunch, there was also Basque music and dancing.
