Donostia-San Sebastian. Jumping into the program feet first are 25 participants from Argentina (15), Spain (1), Uruguay (1), Chile (2) and six from the United States who have been in Donostia since yesterday to participate in this year’s Gaztemundu program that is solely dedicated this year to dance in accordance to the decision made at the World Congress of Basque Collectivities in 2011.
As other editions of this kind the program, given the specific theme, removed the age limit in order to participate so that directors of Basque dance groups around the world could apply.
Throughout the two weeks, July 6th – 20th, they will receive classes in theory and practice, as well as attend various outings so that they can witness dances in their native environments.
One of these field trips will take place today to Lesaka, in Navarra that just began its San Fermin festivities which also served as the topic of the first class yesterday taught by dancers from Lesaka who will perform today in Bortziraiak.
On Wednesday, the group will travel to Vitoria-Gastiez to attend the annual reception given by the Lehendakari for Gaztemundu participants.
The program is complete with contents on dances from all over the country from Bizkaia to Zuberoa, passing through Araba, Behe-Nafarroa, Lapurdi and Gipuzkoa thanks to a number of dance experts and folklore researchers from each of the areas.
