Caracas, Venezuela. While he continues the never-ending work of publishing the monthly newsletter Jazoera, Pedro Javier Arriaga has undertaken a new project compiling and disseminating material that accounts for the strong link between the Caribbean country and the land of the Basque language. According to Arriaga himself, “The Venezuelan Basque” is comprised of a series of files that account for that relationship, with a photo and a small review on Basque related Venezuelan monuments, buildings, gastronomy, characters stories and towns, to mention some materials.
Although he does not rule out the possibility of gathering the files in book format, Arriaga currently publishes “The Venezuelan Basque” on Facebook and it can also be sent via email. Anyone interested may request it by emailing jazoeraccs@gmail.com.
To date, Arriaga is working on his own material, specifically with photographs that he has taken in various corners of the country and including elsewhere, but that correspond to the slogan “The Venezuelan Basque.”
The first publication was on July 10th, “As a tribute to Basques in exile that began the modern history of the Basque presence in Venezuela in 1939, when on July 9th the ship Cuba docked at the ‘La Guaira,’ port,” Pedro Javier Arriaga explained.
