The five Basque chefs specialize in high cuisine in miniature and will travel on Wednesday, November 2nd to Mexico thanks to “Miniature Pintxos-Euskadi Gastronomika,” an event that has already been organized for three years in Araba, and to Basquetour, the Basque Government’s agency for touristic promotion. Its aim is to present the Miniature event, that will include a Mexican part in 2017 hoping to move the best avant-garde pintxos through experience dinners as well as through Master Classes.
The five chefs traveling to Mexico for this occasion are: Rubén Gonzalez ("La Casa del Patrón" in Murgia), Bixen and Mikel Muñoz ("Gran Sol" in Hondarribia), Eneko Ordorika ("Zallo Barri" in Gernika) and Aingeru Etxebarria ("Cuisine School" in Bilbao). They will prepare three pintxo dinners for a selected public in collaboration with local chefs coordinated by Pablo San Roman, cook from Donostia living in Mexico.
Two dinners will take place in Mexico City at the “El Puntal del Norte” Restaurant and at the hotel “Maria Condesa,” on November 3 and 4 respectively. The last dinner will take place in San Miguel de Allende at the “Maria Xoconost” Restaurant. Some of the creations that will be enjoyed include, “Basque Sesame with tuna ceviche and sardines” by Ruben Gonzalez or the “Discordant Pig Snack” by Eneko Ordorika.
This event is part of the Internationalization of Miniature-Euskadi Gastronomika Plan, the pintxo event aimed at a professional public that began in Murgia (Araba) in 2015 and that in 2016 was consolidated including master chefs from Mexico and Japan, as well as champions of pintxo contests and other Michelin Star chefs. This year, Miniature-Euskadi Gastronomika had representation at the 1st Latin American Conference of Gastronomy in Tarija (Bolivia) and plans to expand its international influence with another event in Toronto (Canada).
