Buenos Aires, Argentina. In compliance with its statues, the General Assembly took place last Saturday with the election of one half of FEVA’s board of directors. The election took place at the Laurak Bat Basque club and was attended by 22 voting clubs with 19 voting for and 3 abstentions for the election of the only list presented.
Those elected for a two-year term were:
-Vice-president 1: María Aranzazu Anitua
-Vice-president 2: Juan José Olasagastia
-Director: Miguel Ángel Valencia; alternate, Asier Iriberri Plazaola. Denak Bat, Mar del Plata.
-Director: Damián Cebey; alternate, Juan Carlos Tisera. Euzkal Etxea, San Nicolás.
-Director: Esteban Kain; alternate: José María Etchegoin. Gure Etxea, Tandil.
Those elected for one-year term:
-Auditor: María Ángeles Oñederra, Toki Eder, José C. Paz.
-Auditor: Francisco Javier Zubillaga, Euzko Etxea, Necochea.
-Auditor: Mónica Mercedes Azpiazu, Lagunen Etxea, Laprida.
-Honor Court: Xabier Olaizola (Buenos Aires), Isidro Legarreta (Tandil), Carlos Sosa (Bahía Blanca). Two-year term
-Alternate Honor Court: Mariluz Arteche (Arrecifes), Juan Pedro de Erquiaga (Buenos Aires), Felipe Ernesto Muguerza (Necochea). Two-year term
Basque Government Representatives
After the Assembly, FEVA’s board of directors met with the Director of the Basque Community Abroad, Asier Vallejo and the Delegate of Euskadi in Argentina-Mercosur, Sara Pagola, accompanied by technician, Andoni Martin and Joseba Bergaretxe intern for Argentina.
As part of the meeting, Vallejo addressed specific topics such as Basque Government grants and programs. He stressed the Basque Governments commitment to help for those in dire need and, emphasized the importance of applying for all grants by their designated deadlines.
During his talk, Vallejo also informed those present on the 2015 edition of Gaztemundu for youth between the ages of 18 and 35, who may eventually be part of the board of directors of their Basque club. The program will take place during the last week of September and the first week of October to coincide with the World Congress of Basque Communities that will also take place in Gasteiz. Vallejo also said that due to budgetary restraints, there will only be 15 spots available. Finally, he spoke about the Argentinean “Memoria Bizia” project as a way to introduce Dr. Alvarez Gila’s talk.
Sara Pagola also addressed those present to let them know about projects supported by the Delegation. On the one hand, she let them know about a possible project with the .eus domain that will be in Argentina at the end of June. She also encouraged those present to participate in a sociological study that the La Plata club is carrying out and whose deadline to reply is May 10th.
The Delegate also reminded them of the gender-themed exhibit “Transformando miradas” (Begiradak Eraldatzen - Transforming Looks) and announced some of the activities planned by the Delegation to celebrate Argentinan Euskaraz, among them, an exhibit on the history of Basque in Argentina, that will travel through the clubs and will end up at the National Library in Buenos Aires for the celebration of the International Day of Euskera.
“Memoria Bizia”
Finally, Professor Oscar Alvarez Gila, from the University of the Basque Country explained the “Memoria Bizia” project to those present. This initiative began in Argentina after Alvarez Gila’s talk last Friday in Buenos Aires to future interviewers.
