Anaitasuna, the Basque club in Maipu, has been holding commemorative events throughout the year to mark the 40th anniversary of the institution. The last was an Anniversary Event, that was as successful as the prior events. Two hundred people gathered at the club including FEVA’s vice-president, Arantxa Anitua; representatives from Laurak Bat, and former dantzaris who traveled expressly from la Plata, Tandil, Olavarria and Dolores to perform at the festivities.
Maipu, Argentina. Throughout the year, the Anaitasuna Basque Club in Maipu has carried out various activities to celebrate its 40th anniversary. Since March the anniversary logo has been chosen, there has been a Mus Tournament, food events, an anniversary lunch and a workshop on dance among others. The last proposal was the annual club dinner that was carried out as a “taska” and gathered some 200 guests.
The main stars of the evening were the dantzaris of Egunabar, the local group. They added music, rhythm and color to the festivities. In the words of Laura Etcheverry, member of Anaitasuna, “all of Egunabar’s dancers participated, txikis, intermediates and adults, as well as former dancers who gathered under the name ‘Itzultzeko,” and traveled to Maipu from various parts of the province and country to participate. Among the dances performed on stage we can mention: Aurresku, Ipurdi Dantza, Gora Behera, Txulalai, Makil Dantza, Banako, Bob Espok, Kuadrille, Maskarada Suletina, Arku Dantza, Aukeran, Azkoitia and various fandangos, each group with a different choreography and using different music.”
FEVA was represented by its vice-president, Arantxa Anitua. Representatives from Laurak Bat also attended, and “a law man from the Basque Country, Mr. Luis Bilbao, who was passing through, having lunch in Maipu and heard of our event and so came to our clubhouse,” Etcheverry told EuskalKultura.com. “We also had Martin Gervasoni with us; he is doing a tv project for EITB, so we have told him about our history and strong Basque roots, and we have showed him the clubhouse; if the project is confirmed then others will be given the opportunity to get to know us a little better.”
The Basque club’s events will continue with a presentation at Semana Vasca in Necochea
