Donostia-San Sebastian. A complete success. Despite a windy and rainy forecast, in the end, even the weather cooperated with the inauguration of the new Hotel Heredad de Unanue. This initiative aims to connect with the Diaspora and provide Basques from abroad a place of reference to hold their activities and be promoted throughout the year introducing others to the reality of the part of the Basque Country that resides in Basque communities around the world.

Remember that the Hotel Heredad Unanue, located in the original farmhouse that dates back to the end of the XV, or beginning of the XVI centuries, organized a Diaspora Day celebration on September 8th with attendees from various Basque communities. The official opening came later, the last week of September, and its official inauguration took place last Thursday.
Thanks to Sharma Catering, the event gathered some 100 guests at an event that included addresses by Arantxa Liceaga and Joseba Etxarri, from the hotel, and Arantxa Guezuraga from Sharma Catering. The speakers stressed the challenge that opening a hotel presents, and thanked everyone who made it possible.

To stress the cultural commitment with which the Unanue begins its journey and its particular relationship with the Diaspora, the decoration on the hotel walls and rooms nod to the contribution of the Basques outside the Basque Country. As relevant, as unknown, are the contributions that the Eighth Province has made, and continues to make to the common good. In this way, Unanue plans to start the New Year with a program of activities to disseminate the Basque Diaspora, in hopes of continuing to build bridges between Euskal Herria and its Diaspora.
