Buenos Aires, Argentina. The euskaltegi Euskaltzaleak in Buenos Aires will hold its 70th anniversary dinner this Tuesday, July 15th. The event will take place at the Lalin Restaurant (Moreno 1949) beginning at 9pm. Dinner tickets cost $170 that includes tortilla and squid appetizers, rice and shell fish, or pork and potatoes as an entrée; beverage, dessert and champagne with birthday cake.
The evening will include entertainment from the choir who will do its repertoire in Basque; dancing by members of the dance workshop; and songs and music thanks to the tambourine workshop. In addition, the Basque club will show a video that will include images from various times in the institution. During dinner, paintings by artist member Susana Iturrioz will be raffled.
Tickets need to be reserved ahead of time, until July 11th at euskaltzaleak@yahoo.com.ar.
Film, get-together and San Fermin
The anniversary dinner does not change the regular activities at the center. So tomorrow’s program still includes another film session at 8pm when Txotx by Asier Altuna and Telmo Esnal will be shown along with the film Good News by Helena Taberna.
Following the films the 8th topaketa or get-together of the year will take place on the occasion of San Fermin. For something new, an exhibit of euskaltzale artists will be opened at the Irigoyen Street location; the first exhibitor will be Susana Iturrioz who has also donated two of her works to be raffled at the anniversary dinner.
In the words of Bordagaray
“Without a doubt, this anniversary finds us in a wonderful moment at the institution. Our locale is working to capacity and even if there are always improvements to be done, we have advanced a lot over the last two years. This also allows us to expand our activities as well as branch out, for example with classes that we are giving in the Versalles and Belgrano neighborhoods and a recently added group in Martinez. It is easier to go to new places when we have a place that serves as the base; that is our locale.”
“We also continue with workshops and of course classes in Basque and culture online, where we are able to reach a number of cities across the country, from Salta to Neuquen and Puerto Madryn…. The challenge is to adapt to the new times and people’s possibilities, without losing the essence or the capacity of continuing to be a center that is a reference for the Basque language in Buenos Aires,” explained to EuskalKultura.com Euskaltzaleak president, Carlos Bordagaray.
