A group of members and friends of the Euskal Sustraiak Basque Club worked feverishly for three intense days painting the clubhouse.  After the work was done, the club held its first Basque dinner of the year and is now getting ready for the official kick off of the program of activities for 2017 that begins on march 18th with the presentation of its dantzaris in the capital at “Buenos Aires Celebrates the Basque Country.”

Trenque Lauquen, Argentina.   Taking advantage of the break in activities during summer vacation, the Basque club gathered a group of members and friends to give the clubhouse a touch up and paint the facilities.  The call to work in Auzolan (traditional Basque way of community work) was very successful and after an intense weekend of work the rooms of the clubhouse “were like new,” club sources proudly told EuskalKultura.com.

To celebrate their work and to re-inaugurate the SUM, the club organized the first dinner of the year, last Saturday, February 18th, and gathered nearly 100 guests.  The club dancers also participated by helping serve the tables.  Besides the home cooked menu of coiled roulade, salads, chicken and potatoes and dessert, the organizers also encouraged the public to let themselves go with the music and join in the kalejiras.  The dantzaris also provided entertainment performing some of their favorite dances such as Kaskarot (see video here). The proceeds from the evening will go to the dantzaris.

March is just around the corner, and it traditionally it marks, after summer break, the beginning of activities for the year at Basque clubs in the Southern Cone. In the case of Euskal Sustraiak in Trenque Lauquen, the club reports that in 2017 they provide the community with a wide array of cultural offering that includes dancing for children, youth and adults, Euskera classes, film, talks, workshops and other interesting proposals.
