Trenque Lauquen, Argentina.   The Euskal Sustraiak Basque club celebrated its 18th anniversary on June 11th with a dinner for 100 people and a menu, created by the club cooks that began with cold cuts and was followed by lamb.  It was a party that was organized by all of the members of the club, and the dantzaris were in charge of entertaining the crowd.  Their performance began with “Aurresku” and continued with the txikis doing “Txapeloaz” and the intermediates performing a “Fandango/Arin-Arin.”

When it was time for dessert and blowing out the birthday candle Hector Echaide, club vice-president took the floor with Alejandra Bengochea, club secretary to recognize tow of the club’s founding member that were also in attendance, brother and sister, Celia and Jose Echaniz.  The board of directors also thanked members and friends, as well as “the parents of the txikis who bring their children every Friday and leave them there in total confidence.”

After dinner, the dance started: the adult dancers demonstrated the dances that they had learned, fandangos, and later the dantzaris and the audience joined to dance to the show performed by Emanuel Revecci.

San Juan Bonfire

As every year, the Euskal Sustraiak Basque club will also celebrate San Juan by building a bonfire at the Antique motorbike grounds at the old train station beginning at 6:30pm.  The club will fuel the fire where an effigy will be burned and the children will be able to burn cards that contain their wishes on them. During the afternoon, the dantzaris will dance around the fire and attendees will be treated to hot chocolate and treats.  The club also reported that the city will provide the necessary audio and lights for the event.
