Ayacucho, Argentina. The wait is over, although it has been quite a wait, six years since the land was purchased, but now the fruits are tangible, and at the service of the Basques and the general public of Ayacucho. All of the Euskal Odola Basque Club’s activiites will now take place at the new facilities that, without going any further, will begin this Friday with the traditional Peña Vasca organized every year by the club as part of the national Calf Festival (see information here).
The inauguration took place last Sunday with an event organized in two parts. The first part took place in front of the clubhouse (Sucre al 1146), where there was a large number of people. There, after reading greetings from invited organizations organizers invited everyone to join in singing the National Anthem. Afterwards, the dantzaris performed an Aurresku and finally Maria Nilda Martinez addressed the crowd thanking everyone who contributed to building the Euskal Etxea, and Mayor Emilio Cordonnier, who stressed the work done by these kinds of institutions in the community.
When the time came to officially open the doors of the Euskal Etxea, those in charge of cutting the ribbons included the club’s first president, Mariano Oillataguerre, and the current president, Ignacio Echevarria. They were accompanied by representatives of the Basque community, Mayor Cordonnier and the outgoing mayor who is of Basque descent, Pablo Zubiaurre, who was involved in important negotiations in relation to the building’s construction.
After entering the brand-new facilities, the hosts invited everyone to a cocktail.
