Vitoria-Gasteiz. The Basque Government will distinguish people who contribute to promoting the image of Euskadi abroad with the Euskadi Basque Country Laguna (Friend of the Basque Country Euskadi) recognition that was approved at the Government’s Council. They also gave the green light to procedures to make the award. The institutional distinction will be granted to those who have distinguished themselves for their contribution to the generation and/or strengthening of the image of Euskadi Basque Country abroad and may be awarded to physical persons as well as juridical ones, either public or private, according to the executive.
The new recognition will be awarded by the Secretary General of Foreign Action, and consist of a circular gold badge, with the logo of the Ikurriña in three different heights, in high and low relief, with silver on the relief. The opposite side will have “Euskadi Basque Country Laguna,” engraved along with the date of its presentation.
It is essential for the Basque Government to “strengthen ties and links with the Basque community abroad and with those people who feel an affinity with Basque, given that they constitute a fundamental asset to strengthen the international position of Euskadi. All of this in hopes of ensuring that “the values shared by the Basque society such as the culture of work, commitment, capacity for improvement, equality of opportunities for men and women and social justice are associated with the image of Euskadi and become its international business card.”
