Mar del Plata, Argentina. The Festival of the Ex-dantzari organized by the Mar del Plata Basque club will take place this year on the second weekend of June. The event is part of the activities that the club is developing this year as part of its 70th anniversary and all Basque clubs in the country are invited.
“We are inviting all dancers from various years who have stopped dancing but who would like to do so again, even though they may have a few more gray hairs, or pounds,” according to the invitation.
The Festival of the Ex-Dantzari will take place at the Mar del Plata euskal etxea and the voucher is in the amount of 350 pesos. This includes Saturday breakfast and lunch, entrance into the dance, and lodging from Saturday to Sunday with breakfast at the Hotel America (Bolivar 2322), in downtown.
One group, one dance
Denak Bat encourages dance groups to present a dance (if wanting to do more than one, permission is needed from the organizers) and if there are clubs that don’t have enough dancers, they should attend anyway and join with dance groups in the same situation.
To facilitate the organization, the club asks that participant information be sent ASAP. The deadline to make reservations is May 31. Contact email is: denakbatmardelplata@gmail.com.
Aberri Eguna and the Gernika Bombing
Aberri Eguna and the Anniversary of the Bombing of Gernika, two dates that are very important to the Basque community, were also celebrated in Mar del Plata. Aberri Eguna was celebrated in front of the Cathedral where there was a dance performance. Following the show, nearly 150 people gathered at the clubhouse to continue the festivities.

The 76 Anniversary of the Bombing of Gernika was celebrated at the Plaza San Martin, around the sapling from the Tree of Gernika. Once again, this symbol was chosen to honor the victims of Gernika. As every year, during the commemoration, there were speeches made in the presence of the Argentinean flag and the Ikurrina.
