Tres Arroyos, Argentina. The Hiru Erreka Basque Club has begun a campaign with two objectives: on the one hand, to gather material that would allow them to complete the improvements on the local Basque Plaza; and on the other, for all of the citizens, Basque or not, regardless of club membership to feel a part of the project and in this way create a new meeting point between the community and the club.
The Hiru Erreka club secretary, Sara Urbieta, explained in a conversation with EuskalKultura.com that even if the Plaza was inaugurated 10 years ago, there is still work to be done. “During these years we have been in charge mainly of grooming the property. Now we will begin with work on the infrastructure, including paths, games, murals and typical decorations and symbols of our culture like Lauburus, Ikurriñas, and Eguzkilores. This is why we are gathering red, white and green mosaic and ceramic pieces to use these materials in the construction.”
Materials will be collected at the clubhouse. Nevertheless, they also indicated that they will go collect anything from those who are unable to bring them themselves. The collecting will conclude the first week of April. “In this activity we see an opportunity to work together with the local community so that non-members will also feel united to the Basque club and the plaza,” Urbieta said.
