Homedale, Idaho. “Every year, karrokanpoak (sheepwagons) from the Txoko Ona Basque club participate in the annual Fair and Rodeo Parade in Owyhee County, Idaho, but this year, the club is inviting you and your family to join in. You can do so by walking next to the sheepwagon with an Ikurriña (Basque flag)for example, or by playing Basque music or dancing, and by throwing candy to spectators.” This is what the club in Homedale is proposing for August 11th. Why not join in the Basque clubs efforts and represent the Basque culture in one of the area’s most important events?
They are looking for Basques, individuals or families who are ready to show their pride in their heritage at the Fair and Rodeo. Even better if you can come in your dantzari costume, txapela, or gerriko, or other elements of traditional Basque attire. Local Basques as well as those in the region are invited, even those visiting from the Basque Country if they are in the area at the time. This is a great opportunity to get to know a rodeo better and interact and support your friends at Txoko Ona in its activities.
Anyone wishing to participate should email: lejardi@frontiernet.net with details, how many individuals, if you will walk/ride, play an instrument, dance, or throw candy. Txoko Ona will award every participant with a club t-shirt as well as a voucher redeemable at the club’s Fair booth for a txorizo.
The parade will last between 30 and 60 minutes. Join the fun!
